When is air freight worth it?

For urgent, high-value or lightweight goods, samples, and when stock is running low. For large volumes, sea freight is usually far cheaper.

How is air freight priced?

By chargeable weight: the higher of the actual weight and the volumetric weight (commonly 1 cubic metre = 167 kg). That's why accurate dimensions help us quote precisely.
